Clean-up Grant Deadline is March 1

Thursday, February 15th, 2018

The deadline to apply for Dane G. Hansen Community Clean-Up Grants is quickly approaching! Applications are due March 1, 2018.

Clean-up grants are designed to assist with community beautification efforts, to eliminate the financial barrier to clean-up projects such as land fill fees and equipment rental, and to promote community pride and encourage volunteerism.

Grants can be used for equipment rental, dumpster rental, landfill fees, paint or other consumable supplies, and for support of volunteers. Grants are not intended for the removal of unsafe structures or landscaping projects.

Here are some simple, creative ideas that qualify for clean-up grants:

  • Purchase of dumpsters to create more trash drop-off locations for communities. A few communities had dilapidated dumpsters that needed to be replaced, as they were rusty, unstable and had fulfilled their lifetime of use. This allows for community clean-up in perpetuity!
  • Purchase of trash receptacles in parks, downtown and community areas, etc. A community applied for numerous, quality receptacles for their park to maintain the cleanliness of the area.
  • Tire disposals

These are quick, non-labor-intensive clean-up efforts that can be done in a short amount of time. While labor should primarily be volunteer, grants do allow for skilled labor as necessary (i.e. tree/shrub trimming, roll-off, etc.) and the grant can provide food and refreshments to volunteers.

How to Apply for Clean-Up Funding

  • Approximately $100,000 remains available for qualifying projects within the Hansen service area.
  • Grants will be awarded at a maximum of $10,000 per application, on a first come, first serve basis, until all funds are expended.
  • Applications should be made directly through the community foundation website, and a local advisory committee in each county will determine grant recipients.
  • To be considered, applications must be received by March 1, 2018. (Projects do not need to be completed by 3/1/18).
  • Grants will be paid to the county or a sponsoring qualified organization in the form of reimbursement following the event.
