Community foundation awards $51,851 in spring grants

The Solomon Valley Community Foundation awarded $51,851 during its spring grant cycle. Projects were funded through the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund and the Community Impact Fund for Solomon Valley.

The following organizations received funding:

  • North Central Kansas Genealogical Society, $3,000.00 to make physical improvements at the Pioneer Cemetery in Glen Elder.
  • Glen Elder State Park, $7,657 to create an educational center with artifacts, text, auditory and visual displays at the Waconda Visitor and Education Center.
  • Pride of Kansas Football (Beloit Youth Football), $5,000 to purchase new equipment for the 2018 season, due to changing leagues.
  • Beloit Elementary School, $4,591 to participate in Global Read Aloud, digitized book discussion group with unlimited reach around the world.
  • Tipton Heritage Association, $4,525 to update the handicapped accessible entrance and repair crumbling stucco on adjacent walls.
  • City of Cawker City, $4,000 to purchase street signs for unmarked streets and purchase replacements for existing signs, as current signs are not standard size and not reflective.
  • Tipton Christian School, Inc., $3,883 to purchase several technology items.
  • North Central Regional Planning Commission, $3,500 to conduct a regional food system assessment in Mitchell County.
  • City of Beloit, $3,060 to add a scoreboard at the baseball/softball Field #4 at the City of Beloit Sports Complex.
  • St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, $3,000 to install digital enhancements and additions to the pipe organ.
  • Beloit Arts Center, $2,500 for new hardware, equipment and seating for classes and upcoming performance studio events.
  • City of Cawker City, $2,275 to enhance visitors’ historical and cultural experience when they visit the World’s Largest Ball of Twine.
  • St. John’s Catholic School, $2,250 to purchase additional Chromebooks for elementary students.
  • Heart Choices, $1,800 for car seats, cribs, curriculum updates and car seat safety training for the Smart Parents/Safe Kids of Mitchell County program.
  • Beloit Parks and Recreation, $1,277 to provide aesthetically pleasing signage and an educational component to Chautauqua Park.
  • First United Methodist Church – Boost Ministries, $1,000 to help keep the Blessing Box filled with supplies for community members in need.
  • St. John’s Catholic School, $950 for the purchase of athletic medical bags to serve the student athletes of St. John’s Catholic School and St. John’s/Tipton teams.
  • USD 272 – Parent Teacher Community Organization, $583 to purchase first aid bags, first aid items and medical supplies for Lakeside Elementary in Cawker City.
